Plan for a Greener Tomorrow

In order to measure the environmental performance of our existing fleet operations we have partnered with SmartWay a national organization through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
To improve the environmental performance of our operations we currently do the following:
- Recycle tires, reuse carcasses, and recycle scrap paper
- Have taken delivery on 60+ 2008 GREEN TRUCKS which are basis of our “Green Fleet”
- Have purchased 60+ 2004 – 2006 trucks that can run into the port until 2012
- By 2012 we will have 150+ 2008, 2009, 2010 model trucks
- Have over 60 trucks with TriPac Auxiliary Power Units (APU’s)
- Developing a plan to build our own Auxiliary Power Units for the operation of our heating and cooling when parked and looking to install on remainin fleet.
- Using low wattage bulbs in company lighting
- Have formed a Green Initiative Committee to keep abreast of all new technologies
- Forming an Owner Operator lease to purchase program
- As a member of Cascade Sierra Solutions we hope to find grant money to help develop green solutions for our fleet
As a member of the West Coast Collaborative we learn about innovative solutions and technology through bi-monthly telephone conferences
- Attending Faster Freight – Cleaner Air California to learn about solutions and resources to improve operations and reduce air emissions
- Testing Michelin X One tires which promise to deliver fuel efficiency and weight savings
- Treating waste water from truck washing bay
- Recycling oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze and solvent degreaser
- Driving company vehicles powered by alternative fuel
- Initiating a company wide plant a tree campaign
We are currently developing a plan detailing how we will achieve the environmental goals proposed by California Air Resources Board (CARB)
- The components of this plan include currently purchasing ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel
- Purchasing newer model trucks that reduce particulate matter and phasing out older models
- Exploring pollution controls for our existing fleet
- Continually looking for ways to improve our operations in such a way to benefit the environment
