Plan for a Greener Tomorrow

As of: 12/19/08

In order to measure the environmental performance of our existing fleet operations we have partnered with SmartWay a national organization through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

To improve the environmental performance of our operations we currently do the following:

  • Recycle tires, reuse carcasses, and recycle scrap paper
  • Have taken delivery on 60+ 2008 GREEN TRUCKS which are basis of our “Green Fleet”
  • Have purchased 60+ 2004 – 2006 trucks that can run into the port until 2012
  • By 2012 we will have 150+ 2008, 2009, 2010 model trucks
  • Have over 60 trucks with TriPac Auxiliary Power Units (APU’s)
  • Developing a plan to build our own Auxiliary Power Units for the operation of our heating and cooling when parked and looking to install on remainin fleet.
  • Using low wattage bulbs in company lighting
  • Have formed a Green Initiative Committee to keep abreast of all new technologies
  • Forming an Owner Operator lease to purchase program
  • As a member of Cascade Sierra Solutions we hope to find grant money to help develop green solutions for our fleet
As a member of the West Coast Collaborative we learn about innovative solutions and technology through bi-monthly telephone conferences
  • Attending Faster Freight – Cleaner Air California to learn about solutions and resources to improve operations and reduce air emissions
  • Testing Michelin X One tires which promise to deliver fuel efficiency and weight savings
  • Treating waste water from truck washing bay
  • Recycling oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze and solvent degreaser
  • Driving company vehicles powered by alternative fuel
  • Initiating a company wide plant a tree campaign

We are currently developing a plan detailing how we will achieve the environmental goals proposed by California Air Resources Board (CARB)

  • The components of this plan include currently purchasing ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel
  • Purchasing newer model trucks that reduce particulate matter and phasing out older models
  • Exploring pollution controls for our existing fleet
  • Continually looking for ways to improve our operations in such a way to benefit the environment
