Deadline Approaching for Port Scholarships High School seniors have until March 19 to apply for awards March 10, 2010 Graduating high school seniors in Long Beach who intend to pursue an international trade- or seaport-related college education can still apply for the 2010 Port of Long Beach scholarships. The deadline is March 19. The Port of Long Beach scholarship program recognizes exemplary high school students in Long Beach who are planning to attend two- or four-year college programs to prepare for careers in goods movement, international trade or port-related trades. The awards range from $1,000 to $8,000. “Scholarships are one way we help deserving local students to become the future leaders in goods movement and international trade,” said Richard D. Steinke, Port of Long Beach Executive Director. The Port has also developed a comprehensive educational curriculum, in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District. The scholarship program sets high standards for academic ability, potential, professional interest, financial need, character, dedication to the community and commitment to a career in international trade or the port industry.
