Harbor Tours Are Back Free, educational excursion offers unique glimpse of Port Summer is just around the corner, and that means harbor tours at the Port of Long Beach. The Port offers the popular 90-minute, free tours every year from May through September. It is an opportunity for the public to learn more about operations and environmental initiatives at one the busiest seaports in the world. Did you know? - About $120 billion worth of products move through the Port of Long Beach each year, supporting 30,000 jobs locally and over a million across the country.
- The Port's Green Flag Program helped reduce air pollution by about 2,000 tons last year by giving ships a reason to slow down.
- By 2014, all the container terminals at the Port will have shore power, which allows ships to turn off their auxiliary diesel engines.
- The harbor is teeming with wildlife. Thanks in part to the environmental stewardship of the Port, the average number of birds in the harbor has doubled since the 1970s.
